Wheatley-Kilroy Fly Box

On 25th May 1934 L (Lancelot) Kilroy, W (Willie).D. Kilroy and F Wheatley were granted a patent for what was to become Richard Wheatley's Kilroy Patent Fly Box. This series of boxes were designed around a spiral spring which held the hooks in place. The original series of boxes had squared corners but the hook holiding system has been used on a number of Silmalloy boxes which had rounded corner

Wheatley - Kilroy Patent Fly Boxes was arguably the best salmon fly box invented. It is the least likely of all the Richard Wheatley fly boxes to have been altered, occasionally I find a two spring box with the hook gauge covered by foam.
