The Richard wheatley Museum

Minnow and tackle boxes

From the very beginning Richard Wheatley have been producing tackle containers. Firstly they made tackle wallets or books, followed by a series of tin plate boxes with a black finish.
This in turn was followed by a range of printed tin plate boxes known as Hockley Minnow boxes which included a number of sizes, designs and interiors. Details on the next page.
From the end of the first decade of the 20th century Richard Wheatley & Sons were working in Aluminium and it would not have been long before a range of minnow and tackle boxes joined the fly boxes which were becoming so successful.

Wheatley's ceased to manufacture the transparent lid boxes in 1971
