Other alloy Boxes

As well as the clip boxes Richard Wheatley have over the last 100 years made a number of interiors for their Silmalloy boxes. .
Richard Wheatley have also made other designs within the Silmalloy range. Some with obvious reasons like waddington, tube or dapping flies, others have less obvious reason like the perforated rubber band box.

Drying Pads. Occasionally Wheatleys put cotton covered drying felt pads into boxes. These do not seem to have been popular or the pads did not lasted well and are seldom seen

Empty alloy boxes. Fly boxes that have not had the clips added are not listed as they occasionally left the factory for various purposes without being finished. Modern empty boxes may be from the customise your own box range

Rarity value is based on the simple system below

A - this boxes are either still available via Richard Wheatley, other fishing tackle dealers.
C- box is common & turns up regularly at vintage tackle dealers, fairs or auctions incl. ebay
S- this box is scare but turn up on occasions
R- this box is rare
RR- these are very rare
E - this is exceptional, extremely rare and few examples are known.

Sandwich boxes. Richard Wheatley also made sandwich boxes which they inserted into a leather fisherman's or equestrian picnic set with either a glass bottle or a silver plate drink container. The sets are very rare RR The sandwich box is sometimes found converted to a fly box by the addition of foam
