The collection

The collection comprises of the Richard Wheatley Museum with it's fly boxes, fly wallets or books, minnow and tackle boxes, printing blocks, traditional and modern fly boxes plus other angling tackle made by the company since 1860.

Japaned boxes.

Whilst P.D. Mallochs patented the first fly clip in 1886 Richard Wheatley began to make a similar clip fly box around the same time. These boxes filled the space between wallets or books and the modern alloy boxes - included in this section is the 1904 patent clip. For completeness sake we also have a number of lure or minnow boxes.

Tin Plate Boxes

Sold under the name of The Loch Leven Eyed Fly Boxes, The Hockley Minnow Box or with a plain black or crackle finish.

Alloy boxes

Produced from the start of the 20th Century. These were unmarked in the beginning but had a number of different logos and marks until the Silmalloy logo became established Clip, compartment and minnow boxes are also included as are Wheatley Kilroy and the modern Osprey ones

A - this boxes are either still available via Richard Wheatley, other fishing tackle dealers.

C- box is common & turns up regularly at vintage tackle dealers, fairs or auctions incl. ebay

S- this box is scare but turn up on occasions

R- this box is rare

RR- these are very rare

E - this is exceptional, extremely rare and few examples are known.
